About Company Reimagined

If it’s been your dream to start your own company, you’re trying to get your hands on as many resources as you can to make this a reality. Welcome to Company Reimagined!

You’re not alone. According to the 2017 Inc. Entrepreneurship Index, about 6.4 percent of today’s professionals are entrepreneurs, the highest percentage since 2010. The Index confirmed that there’s 15.8 million self-employed workers in the United States, most of them being one-person operations. When you become your own boss, there are multiple wins for you, your customers and the U.S. Entrepreneurs drive creativity, innovation, jobs, market competition, prosperity, and productivity to strengthen our national economy.

Getting started may be the toughest part for many entrepreneurs as possibilities and risks are considered. Even as an established boss, stuff happens. New opportunities and challenges abound at every level and learning to manage highs and lows is a key entrepreneurial competency. Making it as an entrepreneur, a startup owner or small business proprietor is a challenge, especially for women and people of color. According to StartupNation, female entrepreneurship is on the rise. In the past 20 years, the number of businesses owned by women increased from 26% – 39% in the United States alone.

American Express commissioned The 2018 State of Women-Owned Business Report. While the number of women-owned businesses grew impressively in two decades, the number of businesses owned by black women grew by a staggering 164 percent, the report says. There are 2.4 million African American women-owned businesses in 2018, most owned by women 35 to 54, according to the report.

Solopreneur businesses with more than $1 million in annual revenue have grown by 21% since 2012, according to Elaine Pofeldt, author of the book The Million-Dollar, One-Person Business. She says that newly available and emerging low-cost and free technologies have made generating high revenue easier to grasp for these business professionals.

Despite women owning 39% of all business, they reportedly only benefit in 4% of the revenues. The sales and revenues generated by female-owned businesses tend to be significantly lower than male entrepreneur businesses. Women are also far less likely to receive outside funding for their startups compared to men. Only 6% of partners at venture capitalist firms are women, according to MarketWatch, and the percentage of minority representation is also low. If these firms are comprised primarily of men who primarily fund other males, it presents a major problem. Without a higher probability of women receiving interest from VCs, banks, and other investors, they struggle to acquire the funding necessary to get their business established and sustained.

At Company Reimagined, we believe everyone should have a fair shot at creating the work and life of their dreams, regardless of gender, race, or ethnicity.
